The 'Current Project' Folder

Wherever my LR catalogues are stored, a 'Current Project' folder is automatically created and as I import new pix into any particular LR catalogue, these particular images imported, seem to be duplicated into a dated folder within this 'Current Projects' folder (I think I'm right in saying).

The problem seems to be, as I import more images into various LR catalogues for various projects, the duplicated images are filling up my hard drive.

There's obviously a reason for them being duplicated in this way but as duplicates are appearing day by day, I'm ending up with full hard drives!

Is it OK to delete these duplicated images in the 'Current Projects' folder or will that make the LR project impossible to work on in the future. I'm also a bit frightened that it might be destructive with regard to the original files I have stored in my 'Raw Files' (straight from the camera) folder.

Any advice, greatly appreciated...
